Sir Winston Spencer Churchill

Winston Churchill's place in history. Your comments please.

I have a "short" biography on Churchill written at this link, if you don't mind me linking:

Churchill is certainly a renegade politician who stands out fantastically in his time. Would he be fitting for today's international situation? Probably. I see him as staunch an ally to Bush as Blair was against international terrorism.

Churchill remains one of my favorite war-time politicians of all time.

It appears that we are now in the presence of an outstanding biographer, not only of Churchill but others such Field Marshal's Dill and Alanbrooke - regarding the Churchill biogrephy - it seems the only thing left out was the fact that in the 1924 election - Churchill was beaten by a local councillor who was reputed to be a bit of an idiot - the voting public of Dundee did not altogether relish the thought of a "floor crosser" to represent them in Parliamant.

As to his fitness to-day - no doubt he would have finished the job in Iraq in 1991 by following on to Baghdad and going for the source of all the trouble !

Sir Winston Churchill was the right man in the right place at the right time. Rather like General Charles de Gaulle, perhaps he felt this was his destiny?

Time has moved on since Churchill's day. Is it really possible to consider how he would fare today? He would likely not be PM for starters.

Joseph -
De Gaulle was NOT in the right place at the right time when he came to Canada - to Quebec actually - Montreal's main square - and announced to all - "Vive Quebec Libre"
he was on the next plane back to France !
