The BBC WW2 Archive

This is part of an email from Debré:

Hello all,

The password's been taken off and you should now be able to see the archive site ...
If you find anything that's not working, please send me the link and tell me what error you're experiencing.

Hope you like it :-)

Debré

I have already added the link to our list of links on the right. I've only had a quick look at the Archive, but it looks great. Let me know if you are having any difficulties, then we can consolidate them all and forward them to Debré.

A nice feature is the sequence of small sepia photographs on the opening page. Initially you see four. Now click your mouse pointer on the small arrow on the right and the photos will start scrolling by.

You may see one or two familiar faces. :)

The Archive is truly a work of art - but as always - it would appear that the campaign in Italy finished on D day in Normandy !
Can't complain about my contribution as of all the 30 odd stories I had published at least 40% of them finished up on the "recommended" lists of Africa - Italy and Austria - that must be worth a Booker or Pulizer prize ? - any prize ?

All -
I have spent a few hours to-day ploughing through many of the Army tales and I am astonished at the amount of stories there are - some 6500 for the Army alone which appears to be the highest ratio of most categories.
I am equally astonished that in my file the contacts made and comments made are a very long page and many of the people whom I assisted one way or the other invariably came back with their thanks, which is rather refreshing.
The more I see of this site - the more I am impressed at the amount of work which was done by Katherine and the staff at BBc - as well as the many contributors - particularly the gang of four.
It is indeed an honour to be listed as a friend .

Hello Peter and others,

Checking some of the stories I've posted on behalf of others to the BBC "People's War" website do not appear in the correct category. Any ideas on the best way to try and get these rectified please? I suspect they will never be located. If you are collating comments for Debré perhaps this can be added to those comments please?

For example, the following 3 accounts I've posted on behalf of a relative are about his childhood memories of growing up in Preston, Lancashire:
1. Article ID: A6368132
“My wartime travels as a child gave me a grand start in life”

2. Article ID: A6367430
"A secret, mythical place" in wartime Preston, Lancashire".

3. Article ID: A6367809
Memories of schooldays in ‘Proud Preston’, Lancashire

Yet, strangely the only category these stories appear to be listed under is 'London Category'. Preston, Lancashire is in the North West of England and it is a long way from London. I suspect it may just be somebody has hit the wrong button and they have accidentally ended up in the wrong category.

Has anybody else found accounts on the Archive that do seem to be in the right category? I hope somebody can assist. I'll try and send a message to see if that helps.
