Meeting one of the world's great men
Last night, after taking this photo, I got to shake the hand of someone who I truly believe was one of the "Greats" of World War 2.
I refer, of course, to Sir.Nicholas Winton MBE and the simplest place to read about him is on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicholas_Winton
At the age of 96 he travelled up from Maidenhead to be interviewed in a packed hall by our local Rabbi Fine. At the conclusion of the interview he received a standing ovation from a mesmerised audience.

Now and again we come across an honour from Her Majesty which is throughly well deserved. Nickolas Winton's is certainly more than well deserved but it does raise the question - why did it take so long ? This should have been immediate on learning the facts.

I think that are so right as the BBc's 45,000 tales are just scratching the surface as there must have been millions of tales untold throughout that long war - and before when there was so much activity by people who could see through the propaganda of the day, and set up organisations to help others.
The Jewish people were in the forefront of seeing through and determining the fate of their own, and the setting up of the "Kindertransport" saved thousands of potential victims, from the madness of the Nazi's.
A great fellow indeed. It must have been a tremendous thrill meeting such a fine man. Would that there had been more like him!
