Steve -
don't know why you are surprised that Richard Todd still retains his powerful and clear voice - he is, after all, still a fellow Scot ! besides - he can only be around 84 !
Good luck with your blog !

Hello Steve and others,

It was very interesting to read about the Glider Project. I've been on the one that was reconstructed at the Pegasus Bridge Museum, Benouville, France. There are parts of the original sheels of some of them still there (as you probably know). I've also visited the Arnhem / Oosterbeek area where many gliders were used.

I've listened to a few fellows who flew on gliders in WW2 and they were really putting their trust in the pilot to get them down safely. It's probably unlikely gliders would ever be used in battle again. Helicopters seem to have rather displaced them since WW2. It's good to see enthusiasts keeping alive the knowledge about gliders.

One thing about Richard Todd acting the part of John Howard in 'The Longest Day' is that he had actually taken part in the action himself, and was a personal friend of John Howard. You can't beat knowledge and experience.

Good luck with the Blog Steve. Jolly well done!

Thanks for the comments about the Blog. Alas, it is not my work, but that of our erstwhile Webmaster, S/Ldr Gary Wann. It's his first venture into the heady world of Blogging. Please add comments to any of the threads. I know that Gary will appreciate it.

Tom - I wasn't surprised, more in awe. Richard Todd has been a favourite actor of mine for many years. It was so moving to hear him say "They shall grow not old..."

Thanks for the comments regarding the Assault Glider Trust Blog. It's all a bit new to me so I'm still finding my way around. I'll have a look at the layout of the Blog, particularly the black background. I set it up in a bit of a hurry after watching BBC Breakfast talking about Blogs so I just picked a template at ramdom. I'm very impressed with the WW2 Blog, so now I know what the standard is!

Steve -
I know what you mean about being in awe of Richard Todd - he has been one of the more "honest" actors in the past many years, he first came to my attention in the "Hasty Heart" with Patricia Neal and Ronald Reagan - probably before your time ! To me it was a classic - that word is somewhat overated these days, like many others !
Your friend Gary did well on his first try at blogging !

True to his word, Gary has changed the background. Hopefully, this will be easier on the eye!

Just ignore Tom, he gets a bit fractious at times, I think it's something to do with the cold weather in Azaziz :)

ps. The Assault Glider Project Blog continues to improve.
