The Home Guard recruitment poster seen above appealed to young sportsmen, especially footballers. The message was simple - join your local team and give Hitler the boot! This photograph was taken at the National Football Museum when it was based at the Preston North End football ground (Deepdale).

I have recently come across a original copy of this poster in mint condition. It was in my mum and dads house that we were clearing now they have passed. There was a load of maps from my Grandad who was in the Homeguard, in WW2 and the 1950s revival. It was wrapped up in a map and nodoby knew it was there, it nearly got thrown out! The detail of the pictures and colours are amazing, does anybody know who painted the orginal?
